Using Stealth and Tactics for Paintball

November 21st, 2008

If you’re into the game of paintball, you’re probably looking for ways to stay alive longer, get more kills in before you die, and be a better player overall. There are some stealth techniques and playing tactics that elite paintball players use, that you can tap into to be come a great player.

In paintball, whoever gets the first shot in the general area of their opponent is at an advantage. If you have the opportunity to blanket your opponent with fire, it will be very difficult for them to take aim and fire quality shots back in your direction. In a way, by covering them with fire, you provide cover for yourself while you move in closer to finish them off.

Using existing cover effectively is another skill that is sometimes overlooked. With time, you will learn how to work angles, putting cover in your way so that only one opponent is visible to you at a time. This leaves you free to engage, but you are covered from incoming fire from other enemies. You can also lower the surface area that you show to your enemy by crouching and moving in lower profile positions.

Stealth is important as well. Being able to sneak up behind an enemy is a useful tactic. Sometimes getting a little closer before opening fire is a good idea, even if you have the drop on them. There’s nothing that will ruin an opportunity like giving yourself away before you have the chance to fire.  Part of stealth is blending into your environment.  This can be done by wearing camouflage clothing like BDUs.  Ghillie suits is the next step in stealth and blending into your environment.  Wearing a ghillie suit will get your that first shot.

Stealth Paintball

November 12th, 2008

When looking for the competitive edge over your opponents in paintball, using stealth is an important tactic to overthrowing your enemies. By being sneaky and staying under the radar, you can take out the opposing team without being noticed. If you are skillful enough to find practical cover, popping out at the appropriate time, firing one well-placed shot (or burst of shots), and then moving to a new location, you can eliminate everyone in no time flat.

The first step to being a stealthy player, is making sure you don’t stand out. Your clothes should be dark in color, and you shouldn’t have any shiny metal or other objects that might draw attention to you from afar. You may even want to paint your gun a dark color to avoid being noticed. Bright clothing and bare steel is a great way to get shot down at the beginning of the match.

When playing outside, proper gear and camouflage is required if you want to truly be hidden. From regular camo to full on ghillie suits, you can easily find whatever equipment you need to stay hidden from your enemy. Keep in mind, it’s important to stay nimble and mobile while playing paintball, so choose clothing that fits properly and allows you to move quickly.  If you decide to go with a ghillie suit, mobility is a big concern. Choosing a correct ghillie suit depends on whether or not you plan to remain in one place or shoot and move.  Ghillie ponchos or ghillie jackets combined with BDU pants will give you maximum movement.  Your legs will be light and free for you to run.  A full ghillie suit will give you maximum coverage and less agility.  Remember to also cover your gun!

With a little work, you can become a ninja-like player, popping up behind your opponents and firing shots off before they even have a chance to react.

A Ghillie Suit is Perfect for Paintball

November 1st, 2008

You’ve all seen them in sniper movies: soldiers that literally look like they are covered in their surroundings, crawling along the floor so well hidden that if they were still, you would never in a million years even know they were there.

Well, now ghillie suits are used for paintball as well! They are perfect for paintball matches played in wooded areas. Wearing a suit that matches your surroundings will allow you to be the ultimate sniper, or to get incredibly close without your opponent noticing you. Stealth is key to winning a paintball game, and a ghillie suit can be just what you need to show the enemy who’s boss.

Ghillie suits are available in several different colors, to match the exact tone of the area you live in. Fresh, grassy suits are available, which are perfect for green areas and open fields. You can also obtain ones that match the colors of a more typical forest area, allowing you to blend in with tree bark and dead leaves.

If you really wanted to blend in perfectly, you can obtain a ghillie kit where you cover yourself with grass, leaves, and twigs from around you – that way you guarantee you will match your geographical area. This is the method military snipers from all different countries use, since they can’t risk standing out at all from the background. When someone uses a method, and by doing so puts their life on the line, you can be pretty sure it’s a good system.
